Grammy Award Winning Artist And Activist Performing In San Jose

San Jose, CA (JCC) August 27, 2010 – ‘If I wasn’t an artist, I would still be an activist – out trying to make a difference and giving a voice to those who don’t have one,” states GRAMMY and Dove Award winner Israel Houghton.

Sept. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- Israel Houghton – internationally acclaimed artist, composer and producer, has spent the past 20 years of his musical career fusing pop, rock, latin and R&B influences that cross cultures and generations.  “During my career, a lot of people told me to stop trying to merge styles,” Houghton reflects, “But the times I feel most true to myself are when I am intentionally creating dialogue through music that allows everybody to get involved in the conversation.”

And it is this unique musical style that has landed him numerous awards including six Dove awards, two Stellar awards, a Soul Train award, and three GRAMMY awards.  Israel has also accompanied Alicia Keys at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards for a performance of George Michael’s “Freedom ’90,” and has performed at the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards, taking part in a segment saluting Gospel music alongside the likes of Aretha Franklin and BeBe Winans.

But it’s his love for people of all ages, races and cultures that have seen him also take on the role of activist, using his musical genius to bring healing and hope for a brighter tomorrow.  Israel is actively involved with the relief organization World Vision – Building a better world for children, and CompassionArt – a charity that joins the dots between art and poverty.  He has travelled across the globe to places such as Africa and more recently Haiti to see first-hand the destruction and devastation caused from droughts, food shortages, and natural disasters.

His last solo project, “The Power of One”, he likens to a “charge”.  “Part of a revolution of changing the world is changing YOUR world. Most people think they have to cross the ocean to change the world. The truth is sometimes you gotta go across the room and show kindness to someone. Sometimes you have to cross your own living room and be kind to your family. Sometimes it starts in that nucleus.”

For one night only, Israel Houghton will perform live in concert with the band New Breed at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose on Saturday 6 November 2010, 7.30pm.  Tickets for the concert can be purchased online today at www.jubilee.org/thunder
