Aug. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- GapGuru, one of the UK’s leading ethical gap year providers, is launching a new range of exciting volunteering programmes in South Africa. Mr Arvind Malhotra, Managing Director of GapGuru explains, "While South Africa has always been a popular gap year destination, the World Cup has put it into the international spotlight, highlighting numerous development opportunities that volunteers can get involved in."

Arvind adds, "Our South Africa programmes offer gap year opportunities in both community development and conservation. We have partnered with local NGOs that are doing some excellent development work and require volunteers to deliver their initiatives. GapGuru volunteers will help to provide education and childcare, and support women's empowerment initiatives around Cape Town, or get involved with environmental research in a private game reserve near Johannesburg.”

The South African volunteer programmes start from £890 for a one month placement in a community development project based in the beautiful Winelands region of the Western Cape. Volunteers stay in shared apartments with other gap year travellers and are perfectly placed to explore the stunning scenery and coastline of the surrounding area.

The conservation programme is particularly special, as it provides volunteers the opportunity to get involved with important environmental research in one of South Africa’s outstanding private game reserves. Volunteers work with experienced rangers and researchers, helping to investigate ecological sustainability, while working closely with some of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife. Volunteers are introduced to life on the reserve with a bush craft training course, which teaches the basics of animal identification, tracking and behavior.
