By: Rick London Monday on Aug. 23, 2010. Engineers reinforced a lifeline this past Monday to the miners are in a “safe room” about 2300 feet below the earth's surface. The Chilean gold and copper mine, preparing to keep them supplied with food, water, medicine and communications during the four months it may take to create a tunnel wide enough to enable them to escape. Today in Hot Springs, Ar. Cartoonist Rick London and his wife, photographer/ Lee Hiller-London launched Messages To Miners (on facebook). One may log into their own facebook page and type in Messages To Miners, join the group and post a message at no cost. The group has even opened a Twitter account @messages2Miners. London says, “It actually was my wife's idea. We were working and watching the news as we did yesterday and two days in a row said, “It surely would be nice if there was a way to get messages to the miners so they would know the world was thinking of them.” London says, “Our backgrounds and talents are totally different, but they tend to enhance each other. We've worked together on numerous projects, and we've both worked in corporate America, It seems like more gets done in our mountain studio than in our old big city offices. We enjoy working together.” His wife agrees. London says she created a Twitter background within 15 minutes, and helped him create a facebook group. Then they started inviting friends. The group is currently contacting the Chilean media and government, so that they can be assured the messages get to the miners. The group will continue and be available to all miners in crisis worldwide. Coincidentally, London is not new to mining safety. His uncle, former U.S. Congressman Marc Marks of Pennsylvania was a two-term Commissioner of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission. # # # Rick London founded the Internet's #1 ranked offbeat cartoon & collectibles "Londons Times" in 1997. It has received over 8.7 million visitors since January 2005 and features over 4500 original cartoons and over 100,000 licensed gifts, tees, mugs, etc. His wife Lee Hiller-London is a designer and founder of Lee Hiller Designs. Both launched Messages To Miners. End
