USA Professor to Keynote Project Connect Consortium Meeting Aug. 24

Aug. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- Mobile. Dr. Steven Picou, Professor of Sociology, University of South Alabama, will be the keynote speaker at the August 24 meeting of Project Connect Consortium, 8:00-9:30 a.m., at the International Trade Club, 250 N. Water Street,  Ste. 4, Mobile, AL 36602 (I-10 at Water Street Exit in downtown Mobile).  Breakfast will be served for all pre-registration attendees. The meeting fee is $10 per person, and is payable at the door.

Dr. Picou will discuss the social changes, signs and symptoms of persons who are having problems adapting to change, that may be seen within  the communities in which nonprofits serve, and offer recommendations for nonprofits adapting to meet the needs of their clients.  

Picou has held previous academic and research appointments at The Ohio State University (1971-75) and Texas A&M University (1975-1987). He received his Ph.D. in 1971 from Louisiana State University. Picou has  served as an Affiliate Scientist, Prince William Sound Science Center, Adjunct Scientist, Cooper River Delta Institute, Research Fellow, Social Science Research Institute, University of Central Florida and Adjunct Scientist, Social Science Research Center, Mississippi State University. In 2008, Dr. Picou received the William Foote Whyte Distinguished Career Award from the American Sociological Association section on Sociological Practice.  He is currently directing a five-year study of community recovery from Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi and Louisiana.

The consortium meeting is for nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, educational institutions, and other critical incident-related  businesses and/or interested individuals located  in the Gulf Coast region including Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi, who want to connect with other individuals and organizations.
