Panoramic, a location-based mobile app, released for the iPhone

Aug. 9, 2010 - PRLog -- Citrrus (www.citrrus.com), a Washington DC area mobile applications developer, announces the release of Panoramic, a free location-based mobile app that creates strong connections between users and the people and locations around them.

Panoramic provides a platform that allows organizations including businesses, charitable groups, and local governments to push locally-relevant and timely information directly to mobile devices of users near the locations and areas they serve. Instead of using a friend/follower model, Panoramic relies purely on proximity to form connections between users and locations. User-generated content can also be created and linked to specific locations or geographic areas, creating a dynamic location-based social network connecting nearby users.

Panoramic links to other social networking services to provide convenient interfaces to move information into and out of the platform. Organizational partners can link Twitter accounts to one or more physical locations, defined in the platform, so that tweets will be localized to nearby app users. Facebook integration provides app users with an easy way to broadcast real-life experiences to their social network, with additional location information appended to the post.    

Panoramic is not a pay-for-placement app. Mapping Twitter accounts to physical locations is a free service provided to organizational partners. This approach supports the goal that Panoramic will provide the most comprehensive source of localized media available.

Panoramic is launching in the Washington DC metro area. Other cities will be added until the app covers the entire United States.
