Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- There have been many questions about VB.NET reporting. This article will cover the basic information that you need to learn about the topic.
To understand VB.NET reporting, you need to understand first what Visual Basic.NET is. This is an object oriented programming language for computers, which is often considered by many programmers as a developed version of Visual Basic from Microsoft. Since its release on November 2007, there have been many versions that have been distributed to both users and developers. As they progressed, they have additional features that made even easier for the programmers to build upon their programs. Now if you are interested in making reports using Visual Basic, you can do this easily if you have the right information about how to create the code for this.

VB.net allows the creation of application that can be used to generate reports from a wide variety of compatible data sources. With the said type of report, you have the ability to create your reports, print out the reviews, get the print preview and many more. There are many popular development environments that can facilitate the process. These include SQL Server and of course VB.NET. Examples and modules and other resources where you can find examples on how to generate reports using VB.NET are available over the net.

If you are interested in VB.NET reporting, you will need to follow what is on this article. Open Visual Studio.NET and then choose a new project for Visual Basic.NET. After that, you can create a new report intended for the product table, which has three fields. These fields are the Product name, ID and Price. From the main menu, you will have to select Project then Add New Item. From there, a dialog box will appear. You will then have to select Report Type – remember that there are different types to choose from, so better be wary of what you really need. Approve the default settings by clicking on OK.

After you have finished what has been stated above, you will need to proceed to the next step which is to select the right connection to your own database. After that, you will see a new screen. This is for the SQL Server authentication screen. Choose the appropriate SQL Server name and then click on Next. You will see the property values of the database connection. Usually, you will just have to leave it as it is and then click on Finish.

You will then get the server name so select the database name and then click on the tables. This will let you view your database tables. From there, you will need to select the product table which is at the right side of the table list. Click on the Next button afterwards. Select all the fields which are from the Product table and then click on Finish. You will now see an interface that will allow you to design the look of your report. Take note of the codes given by the references that you can find online, as you might need that to call the program.

VB.NET reporting is a great tool and offers more potential compared to other data manipulation platforms available. Learning and using it will give you a lot of advantage.
