Vascular Access Centers Team Hikes Mount Rainier To Raise Awareness & Funds For Diabetes

Vascular Access Centers, a leader in peripheral arterial disease treatment, vascular access vein care, dialysis & uterine fibroid embolization, recently teamed up with Dr. Steven Reiner to climb Mount Rainier in WAfor diabetes awareness.

July 29, 2010 - PRLog -- A team from Vascular Access Centers (VAC) recently joined Maple Shade, NJ podiatrist Dr. Steven Reiner in climbing Mount Rainier in Washington State to raise money and awareness for diabetes on behalf of The Anna Samartino Diabetes Education Foundation.

Together with Dr. Steven Reiner, the VAC team braved ice, snow, dust and wind gusts of up to 75 mph during the climb.  Safety concerns and stability issues on the glacier posed by the high winds forced the team to turn around only 3,000 feet shy of their destination.
The team raised nearly $4,000 for the foundation, showing remarkable strength and perseverance despite the dangerous conditions.

Dr. Reiner, who is an insulin-dependent diabetic himself, dedicated the climb to his late mother. Dr. Reiner’s climb up Mount Rainier with his team from Vascular Access Centers is the second of its kind that benefited the Anna Samartino Diabetes Education Foundation.

“Hiking a mountain requires incredible strength,” says Andrea Cutillo of Vascular Access Centers. “But it’s nothing compared to the challenge faced by diabetes patients every day.  Although Dr. Reiner has participated in previous climbs, this was the VAC team’s first hike.  We were proud to be a part of this important cause and are very thankful for all the donations toward the foundation.”

According to Cutillo, Vascular Access Centers and Dr. Reiner often collaborate to dramatically improve quality of life for patients with diabetes and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) by providing below-the-knee endovascular procedures and limb salvage.
