By: Matt Klymson PhotoModeler is Windows software for creating 3D models and measurements from photographs using ordinary digital cameras. PhotoModeler Scanner adds the capability of creating dense point clouds like a laser or 3D scanner. The PhotoModeler 2010 and PhotoModeler Scanner 2010 releases build on 18 years of product history. These 2010 releases are focused on efficiency and time savings for the user. All of the software’s core algorithms have been rewritten for higher performance. In addition, many of the algorithms are now threaded to take advantage of modern multi-core CPUs. Comparing PhotoModeler 6 to PhotoModeler 2010 on a four core computer, a user may experience speed improvements of up to 4x in project processing, 16x with automatic target marking, and 32x during DSM creation. These massive improvements will help PhotoModeler users complete 3D measurement and modeling projects more quickly. “Being a long time user of PhotoModeler I am very happy to see an already great product enhanced even more”, says Dan Mills – President, DCM Technical Services. He continues, “Many of the computations in PhotoModeler 2010 can best be described as blisteringly fast and use of multi-core threading makes it even faster. Excellent!” New features in PhotoModeler 2010 include: greatly improved speed and efficiency, support for geographic coordinates (geoids, map-systems, conversions); Getting PhotoModeler 2010 and the Beta Version During the public beta period, starting today and running until Q4, customers purchasing the current PhotoModeler 6 and PhotoModeler Scanner 6 versions will receive a free upgrade to PhotoModeler 2010 or PhotoModeler Scanner 2010 respectively, when they are released. Current and new PhotoModeler 6 owners can participate in the public beta and preview the new versions by sending a request email to beta@photomodeler.com. New Pricing and Product Options PhotoModeler Automation (which includes the coded target module) will be renamed to PhotoModeler. In being repositioned as the first tier in the PhotoModeler product line, the price of the former PhotoModeler Automation is being reduced to $1,145usd. Continuing this trend, PhotoModeler Scanner will also have its price reduced to $2,595usd. These lower prices also apply to all purchases of current PhotoModeler versions starting today. Upgrading from any previous version of PhotoModeler to PhotoModeler 2010 will be $445usd, or $795usd to upgrade from PhotoModeler Scanner 6 to PhotoModeler Scanner 2010. PhotoModeler customers can also trade up to PhotoModeler Scanner 2010 for $1595usd. Additional special offers are available from the PhotoModeler web store throughout the beta period.
