World Trader Coffee Expands Peaberry Coffee Selection

World Trader Coffee, an online retailer of Arabica coffees from around the globe, has greatly expanded its selection of Peaberry coffees. Peaberry coffee – much sought after by coffee enthusiasts – is a particular form of a coffee bean.

July 26, 2010 - PRLog -- To meet demand from coffee enthusiasts, World Trader Coffee has significantly expanded its selection of Peaberry coffees.   More than a dozen Peaberry coffee varities are now available from around the globe.

Premium coffees are most often classified by their geographic origin -- for example, Kenyan AA coffee or Sumatran coffee. The term "peaberry," though, is not a geographic identifier for coffee.  Rather, the designation of a coffee as a "peaberry" relates to the type of coffee bean itself.

Typically, the coffee cherry, or fruit, that forms on a coffee plant contains a bean that forms two halves.  These typical beans are flat on one side.  Sometimes only one of the two seeds becomes fertilized.  In that case, the coffee cherry contains a single bean.   This single bean is round or oval in shape, similar to a pea.    Hence, such individually formed coffee bean is known as a "peaberry."  Roughly five percent of all coffee beans are reported to be peaberries, so there is no question that peaberry coffee is rare.

Peaberry coffees -- in contrast  to regular coffee beans -- are claimed to provide a superior taste.   One school of throught argues that peaberry beans are superior to regular beans due to the roasting process.   Since the peaberries are oval in shape, they roll easily in the roasting chamber, thereby providing a more evenly roasted bean.  Another argument for the superiority of peaberry coffee is the flavor of the bean itself.   The single peaberry bean is smaller and more dense than the two typical beans.  As only one bean is formed, the sole bean is frequently reported to be more robust in flavor and more acidic (generally good for taste) than regular Arabica coffee beans.   Still others argue that the superiority of peaberry coffee beans comes from the rigorous selection process whereby peaberries are separated out from typical coffee beans.

World Trader Coffee now offers a total of thirteen different Peaberry coffees.  Each major coffee region of the world is covered -- Africa, Asia, Central America, South America, Hawaii, Indonesia and the Caribbean.   Africa yields the greatest variety of Peaberry coffees with Tanzania, Kenya, Cameroon, and Malawi each being represented.   South America follows closely behind with varietes from Bolivia, Brazil, and Colombia.    From Central America, peaberry coffees are available from both Costa Rica and El Salvador.    Hard to find varieties from Papua New Guinea, and India -- specifically, the Pear Mountain variety -- may now be purchased.    Consumers also have the opportunity to try several premium coffees, including Kona and Jamaica Blue Mountain, as peaberry varieties.   The full selection may be found at http://www.worldtradercoffee.com/Peaberry-Coffee-s/46.htm.
