July 26, 2010 - PRLog -- Angola’s second largest mobile operator, Movicell, is reportedly planning to switch from its current CDMA network to the competing GSM-based technology that is already operated by the domestic market leader Unitel.

According to an insider source, this strategic shift is a new move that aims  at making the operator more competitive especially with the increasing number of subscribers that are using mobile services. Though, further details on this development are expected in a press conference that will be held very soon. The switch is set to be  completed by the end of this year.

It would be recalled that Angola is one of the fastest growing and most promising mobile markets in Africa, currently the country is a duopoly operated by Unitel with more than 6 million subscribers as of March 2010 and Movicel that services roughly over 3 million customers according to Dataxis Intelligence.
