Jim Guittard's music is out of this world!Jim Guittard music is the most creative and inventive in the music industry
By: A & R Select He calls himself a do-it-yourself type of person. Through a bit of bullying by school mates because of his last name, Jim finally caved in and pick up the guitar at the age of 14. He listens to Elvis, the Beatles, Doors, Rolling Stones while his school mates listened to artists such as Def Leppard, Motley Crue and the like. This didn’t sway him in any way. Jim continued to write, play guitar and decided to take Beatles songs and use his own lyrics. He recorded them on cassette. This was quite an ingenious idea. Jim grew up in Dallas, Texas where he had the Bible Belt influences around him from a young age. He left Texas for college in Colorado. Once he graduated, he returned to Texas, working standard 9-5 jobs, getting frustrated and disillusioned. Yet he continued to record songs. In 1999 he went to California, returned to Texas, went to Bulgaria for the summer, went to Portland, Oregon, left Portland and went back to Bulgaria where he got married. And yes, he was still recording songs. Jim Guittard’s music is a summary of his life experiences. A documentary of sorts, of his life, where he’s lived and the journey’s he’s been on. Now, he’s released a few singles that are a culmination of life thus far. “Confusion, Lies, Guns and Drugs” is about his life. He’s had some acquaintances in Hollywood back in 2000 and he being naïve and thinking he could save this person. It didn’t turn out as he had thought. It was a low point in his life and this song portrays this instance. It portrays idealism, anger, disappointment and the negative effects that innocents brings. This song has nice harmony, with a very melodic rhythm and has quite a story and a lesson to tell. “Hitting The Lotto” is about quick fixes or instant gratification. It may not be all that you thought it was supposed to be. This is idealism at its finest with plenty of sarcasm sprinkled in. This song is sung with nice harmony along with an echo effect that gives it a uniqueness flavor. Its tempo is slow yet full of catchy lyrics and verses. “You Can Not Knock Me Down” was recorded at a time when he thought everyone was against him. This song is about fighting for the good in life. It’s about courage to forge forward and strength. The arrangement of this particular song reminds me of a hippie movement during the Vietnam War. It’s more of a psychedelic portrayal of the musicians experience in his life. There are sounds in this song that I’ve not heard in before in a song such as pots and pans. This song truly holds your attention. What I can say about the writings, arrangements, recordings and performances of Jim Guittard’s music is that he surprises you with every piece. He’s invention, creative, unafraid and full of talent.
