July 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Liberty Restaurant Group, the Burger King franchisee with 23 St. Louis area locations, sponsored the Racing to Read Charitable Foundation (RTRCF), “Century of the Car/Motorcycle Show” for charity which was held Sunday July 18th at the Forest Park World’s Fair Pavilion. The day started off with a thunder storm that would cancel most events, but this charitable foundation and sponsors stood their ground to raise money for the literacy initiative. After a late start, the sun was shining and instead of rain classic and custom cars and motorcycles began to pour in.

In addition to being the presenting sponsor, throughout the day Liberty Restaurant Group positioned BK® employee volunteers at the event who gave away sack lunches, free food coupons and other giveaways. Couple that with a live band, silent auction, trophy presentation, an appearance by David Lambert, a Colorado-based Logan Racing AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) professional road racer and special guest Charlie Dooley, St. Louis County Executive; the event raised money and was racing to a successful finish.

“Literacy is an important part of our community service movement so we were more than thrilled to pitch in to support an educational program whose efforts improve the entire St. Louis Metro area,” says Kelly Hasty, Liberty Restaurant Group.

Earlier this month RTRCF was honored by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon with a proclamation declaring an official “Racing to Read Charitable Foundation” Month and Day in the State of Missouri. The foundation, which was introduced in 2009 by Dr. Jim Logan, one of Missouri’s first African American chiropractors and the first African American Indy racing team owner, combined his love for racing and education to launch the foundation.

“It’s great to see corporations show concern for the community and demonstrate some form of responsibility. I’m glad Liberty Restaurant Group recognizes the need for literacy projects in the St. Louis area,” says Charlie Dooley, St. Louis County Executive.
