Toy Story 3 HTML5 Mobile Ad for Real, with Real-Time Mobile Ticketing

The first HTML5 mobile advertising campaign in the Asia Pacific region, iPhone app Hong Kong Movie x Toy Story 3 Campaign demonstrates how mobile ticketing experience can be enriched by HTML5 iPhone ad.

July 14, 2010 - PRLog -- (Hong Kong) Green Tomato Ltd (GreenTomato), a leading mobile application service provider developed the HTML5 Toy Story 3 mobile advertising campaign for Intercontinental Film Distributors (H.K.) Limited (IFDL) in Hong Kong. The campaign, which will be piloted on GreenTomato’s iPhone app, Hong Kong Movie, promotes Toy Story 3 to its 350,000 users and allows ticket purchases for Multiplex cinemas. The Toy Story 3 mobile advertising campaign is being run through Hotmob’s mobile advertising network. Hotmob is a mobile media partner of GreenTomato, operating the first and largest mobile advertising network in Hong Kong and Greater China Region.

"We employed HTML5 in this campaign to enrich users experience. With better interactivity in the mobile ad, IFDL can gain unprecedented engagement from movie lovers. We are very excited about the new potential opened up by HTML5," said Danny Kok, R&D Team Leader of GreenTomato.

Unlike traditional banner ads that drive users away to external sites, the HTML5 ad keeps users within the application while they interact with content-rich activities built in the pop-up banner. “For this campaign, we don’t treat the pop-up banner as an advertisement at all. It is indeed an extension of the story experience for movie goers. They can now participate in the Toy Story journey even before the movie begins,” said Mr Wing Ng, General Manager of IFDL. “In addition to reading synopsis, meeting characters and watching trailer, users can conveniently buy tickets through mobile ticketing, all done within the app.”

About 10,000 ticket purchases have been made through all versions of the Hong Kong Movie app. Sunny Kok, GreenTomato Chief Executive Officer said, “We achieved a 5% conversion rate from vistors to registered customers in our previous campaign, The Nightmare on Elm Street. This time with the exciting HTML5 enabled features, we are expecting to see a 3-5% growth in the conversion rate. We trust that HTML5 will maximize the mobile ticketing experience furthermore.”

Hong Kong Movie allows movie goers to buy tickets in real time and browse comprehensive movie information including over 40 cinemas information, movie synopsis, comment sharing, show time schedules and the one of its kind real-time seating plan update.
