The tarpaulin industry has made extensive progress in recent years by not only adding more color variations to their line of products but by also producing more available sizes. What was once a minimal selection of tarp sizes and colors has transformed into a plethora of choices for the consumer. There is now a tarp size and color for just about every possible application. The newest addition to the tarpaulin industry is the introduction of large tarps.

Large tarps have been produced specifically for areas needing wide coverage such as commercial rooftops, baseball fields, construction sites and more. Availability ranges from sizes 30' X 50', 50' X 50' and can even be as large as 170' X 170'. Tarps, particularly those made of polyethylene, have grown in popularity in recent years due to the fact that they are lower in cost than other outdoor fabrics and that they are durable in both hot and cold temperatures. Polyethylene is naturally mildew, rot and mold resistant and can be left outdoors for years without succumbing to derogation caused by UV exposure. These characteristics along with the relatively lightweight nature of polyethylene have made the poly tarp the premier choice for outdoors coverage.

Large, heavy-duty tarps are commonly 12 Mil. in thickness and are retrofitted with grommets every 18 inches. The heavy-duty tarp is manufactured for applications that require longer coverage and to hold up to long periods of exposure, each poly tarp is triple laminated to ensure that it is a fully waterproof membrane. To further enhance the longevity of a large poly tarp, manufacturers typically treat each cover inside and out with UV blockers as well as including added fade blockers, anti aging, anti-yellowing and anti-microbial agents.

Although there are many different sizes of poly tarps available, large tarps are useful in the sense that they complete the job with the use of one single cover. There is no longer a need to purchase several smaller tarps to accomplish a large job, as has been the case in previous years. Large tarp covers are available in several colors and include Blue, Green, Silver and White. Due to their overall size, most large tarps are shipped to the consumer on a single or double pallet through LTL freight.
