July 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Art of the Olympians  (AOTO) is honored to announce that the  United States Olympic Committee (USOC) has given the organization permission to fly the USA Olympic five-ring flag at the Art of the Olympians Al Oerter Center for Excellence in the Historic River District of Downtown Fort Myers, Fla.

AOTO Board Members Liston Bochette III and Cathy Oerter traveled to Colorado Springs to meet with representatives from the USOC last week where they were given the official permission. AOTO is able to display the Olympic Rings on and in the Center for Excellence and in promotional materials.

The Art of the Olympians Center for Excellence celebrates the constant challenge to achieve greatness in physical, artistic, and educational endeavors.

In recognition of founder Al Oerter’s long-standing commitment to the ancient Olympic ideals and his contribution to Olympic sport, the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) granted Art of the Olympians legal use of the word "Olympian", which is actually protected by an act of Congress.

Art of the Olympians promotes and cultivates creative thinking through interactive workshops, Sport and Cultural Exhibitions, lectures, and hands-on activities that align the ethics of sport with the creative experience. These lessons expose patrons of all ages to innovative ideas in order to encourage imagination, team-work, and the discovery of self-direction through the Ancient Olympic Ideals of excellence in mind, body and spirit.

“The respect shown by the USOC in presenting AOTO with the USA five rings demonstrates the confidence and admiration for Al's vision to create a center promoting Olympic ideals and values,”Cathy Oerter, AOTO Chairwoman and wife of Al Oerter.

AOTO will host a special reception to unveil the Olympic Rings at the Al Oerter Center of Excellence in coming months.

Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gallery is closed to on Sundays, Mondays and holidays. For entrance during regular hours, AOTO is offering a special admission rate of $2.
