Austin F1 Track Location Revealed

July 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Austin, Texas, is set to be the new home of Formula One racing in the United States beginning in 2012, and for weeks local media has been buzzing with speculation about the exact location of the new track.  Today, a source close to the negotiations has confirmed to Austin F1 News that the track will be located near Austin Bergstrom International Airport, in the East Travis County community of Del Valle.

The track, to be designed by veteran Formula One track desgner Hermann Tilke, will be built just south of Elroy Road, East of the 130 toll road.

“It is really an ideal location,” the source said. “Being next to the aiport obviously carries enormous advantages.”

But this location is also ideal for highway transportation.

“Visitors coming by car, from the DFW area to the north, San Antonio to the South, and Houston to the East will be able to get to the track without going through central Austin.  This helps get people and material to the to the track site, but it also helps mitigate traffic congestion throughout the city.”

In addition to transportation concerns, simple availability played a role in the decision as well.

“The track and the associated ammenities like hotels require an enormous tract of land,” the source said,  “and this is the only area in Travis County with the necessary land available.”

The new American F1 venture is aleady being lauded for it’s commitment to use the circuit to advance research in alternative fuels.  The investors intend to extend this commitment to a positive impact to the local community.

“The investors are not just investing in the track, they are investing in the East Travis County community,” the source said.  “

The source indicated that the project would bring much-needed infrastructure development to the area.  He also indicated a commitment that the track would bring quality jobs.

“The investors will insure that every job associated with the track pays a living wage.  We are working with community leaders on determinig needs that can be addressed through the development that is coming to the area.”

The formal announcement of the track location is expected to take place next week.  Information regarding ticket sales for the inagural race in 2012 will be released early next year.
