Are middle managers holding back economic recovery?

Many middle managers seem to be under significant stress, which is impacting their ability to translate strategy into outcomes. Studies in both the US and Australia indicate good reason for concern. Inivitation to contribute to the extended study.

July 3, 2010 - PRLog -- A February 2010 study of just over 100 senior HR executives in the US produced some highly concerning data about the current state of mid-level managers. The report suggests that many middle managers are operating under severe pressure and are concerned about the affect on business outcomes in the next financial year. HR executives are also worried about losing top performing middle managers.

Since middle managers are the critical translators of strategy into execution, we felt it essential to determine the state of play more widely. We are currently analysing data from our snap-survey within Australia, and would be interested to learn about middle managers globally.

Initial findings from our small Australian study (55 respondents from 30 organisations), which includes commentary from middle managers themselves, suggest that many organisations need to be quite concerned about this important layer of management.

If you'd like to contribute to this research into mid-level (middle) managers by completing a very short survey (less than 5 minutes), please click on the link:
