The Pathway To Dreams and Beyond!D.O.I.T Jax Inc is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting life-transforming opportunities for the youth. Our mission is to create a place where young people can grow and learn the importance of life through involvement in the arts.
By: D.O.I.T. JAX INC Our goal is to create a place where privileged and underprivileged individuals with hope for self-improvement, can develop a more C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E. status for themselves through various art forms through a family oriented atmosphere (support). We want to create a place that is recognized throughout the Greater Jacksonville Florida area as a foundation for growth of development. Our Objectives are to create and develop individuals who can effectively compete in a competitive marketplace. Our step-by-step approach (C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E.) Our services will also provide a continuous support outlet for individuals and families who have gone through our program. Go to http://www.doitjax.org to see more and register. CREDIBLE is a values-based and experiential learning program that seeks to improve opportunities for success in the lives of at-risk young people in our community through dance. Our program will accomplish this by incorporating the acronym C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E. in the instruction of dance as follows: COMMITMENT: Participants will learn the value of commitment to self, to others and to the program by setting goals and taking the necessary steps to accomplish those goals. Through dance instruction, they will experience personal growth by committing to learning moves and routines, as well as by committing to the physical conditioning required to achieve the final results of a choreographed routine. Each week they will see how their commitment to learning and practicing new moves ultimately culminating in a dance routine ready for performance has contributed to their personal growth and development. By recognizing their mastery of each new skill, they will see the positive effects of setting goals and following through with the commitment to taking the necessary steps required to achieve those goals. RESPECT: Through dance instruction, participants will learn the value of respect for self, leaders and peers. Punctuality and attendance will be stressed as means of respect for other participants and the instructor with the awareness that each person plays an integral part in the performance. Respect for leaders is taught through the use of call and response, which will also increase awareness of the teacher’s role. Students must listen and reply in order to master the moves that will result in a choreographed routine. Through this practice students will learn a greater sense of respect for authority figures when an order or instruction is given. These principles are directly related to the participants’ EDUCATION: Program participants will experience the value of learning, studying and being prepared through the study of dance. By learning the history of dance they will discover how being educated in a certain discipline contributes to one’s mastery of it as well as to overall personal growth and development. We will stress the idea that once a person discovers something he or she feels passionate about, education can bring an added measure of job to life, making the difference between merely existing and really living. In addition, with better education comes higher test scores and greater opportunities for success. DISCIPLINE: Through the study of dance, participants will experience tangible results of self-discipline. By attending classes, paying attention and practicing new steps and moves, participants will discover how their persistence and dedication naturally leads to improvement. Instructors will focus on the importance of having a clear sense of right and wrong, setting limits, and exercising self-control in developing behaviors required to become a successful dancer. By practicing discipline in the dance studio, students will learn to incorporate it in their daily lives and eliminate the possibilities of future homelessness, incarceration and even untimely death. INDEPENDENCE: BELIEF: The Pathways program will teach participants that through the study of dance, no matter what the style or form, they can accomplish their goals if they believe in themselves. By overcoming obstacles in class, they will build the confidence that is needed to foster this belief. In addition, we believe it is important to for each participant to consider his or her spiritual beliefs and to be aware of the beliefs of others. This belief can take any form the participant feels comfortable with, but first and foremost he or she must believe in self. We will have a time for sharing and discussion at the end of each session to allow participants to learn about one another improving their awareness and tolerance of differing spiritual beliefs. LEADERSHIP: Everyone has something to offer and each program participant will have opportunities to teach a step or lead a warm up session so that he or she can experience a sense of leadership. Through this practice each student will develop a greater awareness of his or her own tendencies toward leading and following. Through discussion, participants will gain a better understanding of their own comfort zones and can set their own goals toward improving their ability to lead. ETIQUETTE: As part of our dance instruction, we will stress the importance of learning and using manners, practicing good grooming habits and choosing proper attire. Our aim is to help participants learn that the impression they make on others not only in class, but also in business and social settings, plays a major role in their ability to succeed in life. Participants will have opportunities to practice these skills in a formal dining experience and by attending local cultural events.
