June 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL, June 29, 2010 - Chicago’s only political cabaret, Democracy Burlesque, answers that question through their new show Eat Me!  The show will be an evening of hilarious sketches, poetry, music, and stand-up.  Eat Me! features gourmet comedy courtesy of the organically-grown Writer’s Bullpen and naturally-rehearsed troupe, the Actors of Evil.  There will also be some locally grown music by Nathaniel Matthew and the Hepsounds.

Performances are Tuesdays, July 27th, August 3rd and 10th, at 7:30 PM at Mary’s Attic, 5400 North Clark Street in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood. Tickets are $15 and include 1 drink, with $10 tickets for designated drivers, the under 21 crowd, and teetotalers.  While the box office only accepts cash, there is an ATM available downstairs. Also, $5 from each and every ticket raises money and awareness for Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble’s Kids Project!
(There will also be an invited dress rehearsal open to the press on Monday, July 19th at 7:30 PM to chat with folks before the official opening.)

Democracy Burlesque has been a theatre company for the politically active since 2006.  Its primary mission is to create a gathering place for political conversation while raising money for worthy nonprofit grassroots organizations. The group does 4 shows a year, and proceeds from each show benefit a 'Cause Celebre'.  Erik Parsons, the artistic director, says, “This is a community endeavor.  We do this because we want to raise money for these groups that better our community, plus we get to have fun along the way.”

The 'Cause Celebre' for Eat Me! is Kids Project, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble’s outreach program that teaches history, science, math, and literacy to through the fine and performing arts. This is a program on the rise.  In just 3 years, Kids Project has expanded from working with 200 hundred Chicago students annually to 1,000.  And the students truly enjoy the experience.  Teacher Jen Guglielmi explained, “…before long we were stomping away to ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’ and Vincent, after every new step he learned, would say (with a surprised look on his face) ‘This is fun!!!’”

So c'mon down, and don't be late, to Eat Me!
