Seattle Pilots 1969 Home Jersey - Jim Bouton

In 1967, American League owners approved a move of the Kansas City Athletics to Oakland. It was that decision that spurred the owners to expand the league to 12 teams, creating clubs in both Kansas City and Seattle for the start of the 1969 season. The Seattle franchise was nicknamed the Pilots because of their geographical connection with maritime trades. After playing one year at Sicks’ Stadium, home of the Pacific Coast League Rainiers, the Pilots would move to Milwaukee for the start of the 1970 season. Baseball returned to Seattle in 1977 with the creation of the Mariners in the American League. Sicks’ Stadium has since been demolished and a popular hardware store now resides on the site of the old ball park.
