Follow on Google News | “SOLO – The Series” to Launch Online July 6, 2010The highly anticipated, sci-fi comedy web series is set to premiere its first three episodes starting on July 6th, 2010.
“With Jon M. Chu’s extravagant web series, The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, debuting on July 7th, and Season 4 of Felicia Day’s critically acclaimed online hit, The Guild, releasing on July 13th... Now add SOLO to the mix. Wow,” said Nail. “It’s going to be an awesome month for webTV.” SOLO – The Series is the saga of an unlikely reality star who is stranded in space when his series is canceled and his wife declares him legally dead. Scott Drizhal (Jonathan Nail – Mad Men, Criminal Minds, HBO’s Carnivàle), finds himself trapped on a round-trip voyage to Mars and back. With no company in deep space other than a smart-ass, artificially intelligent ship computer, the PHAL9000 (Jason Burns – LAGenX Radio, the voice of The John Tesh Show), Scott must survive the sardonic onslaught from PHAL and pray his seemingly inept ground crew can bring him home. His wife, Rebecca, played by the deceptively charming Michele Boyd (The Guild, Machines of Malice), fends off the unwanted advances of the Napoleonic show producer, Jack Spratt (Jay Caputo – The Green Hornet, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Planet of the Apes,) whose hubris lands him and the show into Japanese mafia infested waters... Hilarity ensues. Nail had enormous help along the way with show Producer, Allison Vanore (producer of three award-winning short films: Love Sick Love, Rooftop, and Junkyard). Vanore assembled a talented crew with Director Jorge Urbina (Hell Hole - the Series, Junkyard) helming the first two episodes and Director of Photography, P.J. Gaynard (The Mercury Men, Rooftop, Love Sick Love), behind the camera. Rob Gokee, film composer and a recently published author of a humorous book about Twitter (In the Belly of the Fail Whale) laid down the original music for the entire series. Vanore also makes her directorial debut helming the third episode of SOLO. Douglas Adams' trilogy, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and such TV classics as Lost in Space and Get Smart heavily influence the show’s creator. However, Nail's humor is not completely celestial in origin. Shows like Arrested Development, The Office, and the audacity of reality series that should fail miserably, yet somehow thrive, continue to encourage Nail to stretch the boundaries of absurdity. Nail also throws in a healthy dose of slapstick to keep the laughs rolling along. SOLO – The Series has been chosen as an Official Selection for the 5th Annual Independent Television Festival in Los Angeles, CA (July 30th – August 5th, 2010) and for the Flagstaff Film Festival in Flagstaff, AZ (August 9th – 16th, 2010).
