How a London girl became the youngest Mathematics and Computer Science Graduate from Oxford

June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- London-England: Barking-born Anne-Marie Imafidon, the eldest sibling of inner city Wonder Twins, Paula and Peter Imafidon, known as the youngest children ever to pass a Mathematics A-level paper and holders of several academic records, graduated today. She is the youngest student ever to graduate with a Masters Degree in the twin specialisms of Mathematics and Computer Science. Anne-Marie was a student of the Excellence in Education programme when she received an offer from the University of Oxford at the tender age of 15, thus becoming the youngest girl ever admitted on to the direct Masters Degree programme. She started her formal education in the suburb of Washington, DC USA.

Anne-Marie, who represented her college (Keble) in Netball and played other sports, was the youngest person ever to serve in a University Committee which included professors old enough to be her grandfather. She said "everyone made you feel welcome and it was a delight to hold such positions on behalf of other students.”

All children of the Imafidon family attended inner city schools, yet have set various world records including passing High school, and college level exams (GCSEs) at six, or seven and other advanced exams while at elementary (primary) school after participating in the Excellence in Education programme.

Maths prodigy Anne-Marie Imafidon, who holds the world record of the youngest girl ever to pass A-level computing at the age of eleven, will join thousands of students at the University of Oxford to receive notification of their degrees exams later this month. (or next week if embargoed till July 1, 2010).

Younger sister, Christiana, became the youngest student ever to study at undergraduate level under a special UK government University scholarship for gifted students when she was aged 11.

Anne-Marie said that her experience in Oxford “was very enjoyable and student life in Oxford proved that there is nothing to scare any inner city child of any age. It was exciting to play Netball for my college, participate in the Oxford Fashion Show and win a prize in a cooking competition.”

Before going to university she attended inner city public (state-funded) schools in London's  Enfield and Waltham Forest areas, unlike many other child prodigies, she has never been home-schooled.  Neither of her parents are Mathematicians.

Her delighted Father Chris Imafidon stated that “Every teacher and parent must realise that there is a genius in every child, no matter the postcode, and irrespective of what conventional wisdom states”. He added that “it does not matter the social class, or background, every child will perform to their best ability and talent if given the right environment. I commend the teachers, schools and charities who work with inner city support groups such as the Excellence in Education programme that works with parent groups."

Anne-Marie has since joined her other siblings – Samantha and Christiana to co-author the best selling Mathematics Revision guide entitled Mathematics Manual. Soon after graduation, she will be releasing more free Mathematics teaching videos through the family website (www.imafidon.com). She has now received many employment offers from Blue chip companies, world leading financial institutions and academe. Presidents and world leaders want her to advise them on women and education issues but she is committed to spending part of her time to help inner city children and charities.
