June 23, 2010 - PRLog -- The Cleveland CG4 irons represent Cleveland 's first foray into game-improvement irons made with light density CMM brand metal. Cleveland  Golf's proprietary CMM metal was the industry's first light-density steel and is the same material used in CG10 wedges, as well as CG1 and CG2 irons. This revolutionary new material contains microscopic carbon spheres that are suspended within the metal to help create a matrix material that is 10% less dense and 15% softer than the traditional carbon steel used in cast and forged clubheads. The light-density properties of CMM metal allowed designers at Cleveland Golf  to redistribute 25 grams of discretionary weight to the most critical areas of the clubhead for optimum performance. I owned the Cleveland VAS 792 with composite-R shafts, TA3 with True Temper steel R, and now the CG4 True Temper steel R. I have always used Cleveland for their lower price and higher quality. VAS 792 best irons ever made by any maker. Dead straight and longer than any other irons on the market. Sad they are no longer manufactured.

CMM metal contains 17 times more carbon than traditional carbon steel, which not only leads to greater vibration absorption, but also gives these irons a softer feel at impact. The overall design of the CG4 irons, combined with the benefits of CMM metal, has helped create irons with an exceptionally low and deep center of gravity (CG) and a moment of inertia (MOI) that is higher than any other iron in its class. The wider sole and cavity-back design of these irons also gives them both increased stability at impact and an even larger sweet spot for added forgiveness on off-center shots. TA3 good looking clubs and as good as anything else on the market but not as good as the VAS 792. Almost as long though. Easier to work with than the VAS 792 under tough conditions, especially out of bunkers.  CG4 was not an easy switch from the TA3 and took some time to get used to. Definitely softer to hit than the TA3. Not as long though as either the VAS 792 or the TA3. CG4 top line is thicker than usual for Cleveland, again needing to get used to it. Offset looks minimal, even compared to the TA3. Still work in progress but pleased with the CG4 performance overall.  CG4 main characters would be soft as hell off the face, easy to work with, and a thick top line that looks like it wants to punish the ball.
