IFP/Chicago to Honor Tribeca Enterprises at
4th Annual Independent Film Gala

Chicago, IL – June 14, 2010 IFP/Chicago officially announces Tribeca Enterprises as the 2010 Honoree for the fourth annual Independent Film Gala to be held Friday, September 24, 2010.  IFP/Chicago is pleased to honor Tribeca Enterprises for their many ventures supporting and promoting independent film, independent filmmakers and the independent film community.  Most recently, Tribeca has continued to extend their reach bringing their support to Chicago.

After founding the Tribeca Film Festival in 2001 following the attacks on the World Trade Center, Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff established Tribeca Enterprises - a diversified multi-platform media company with a mission to provide artists with unique platforms to expand the audience for their works and to broaden the access point for consumers to experience independent film and media. Tribeca’s extensive network now includes the Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival International, Tribeca Film, TribecaFilm.com, Doha Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca Cinemas and the recently announced strategic partnership with Flashpoint Academy forming the new Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy in Chicago.

IFP/Chicago’s 2010 Independent Film Gala will be held on September 24th, 2010 at the newly renovated Excalibur.  The evening will begin with a VIP reception at 6:00 p.m. (invite only) followed by regular admission beginning at 6:45 p.m. Last year’s event brought together over 350 industry guests, including Honorary Chair, Effie T. Brown.  Effie, an award-winning producer whose credits include Stranger Inside, Rocket Science, Real Women Have Curves and many more, got her start in IFP/LA’s mentorship program and credits IFP with her ability to go from “a girl with a dream to an award-winning filmmaker.” The event raised almost $70,000 in support of the valuable mission of IFP.  The Emcee and Host Committee members for the 2010 Gala will be announced on the IFP/Chicago website at www.ifpchicago.org in the coming weeks.  

All proceeds will go toward sustaining and expanding IFP/Chicago’s services and programs serving filmmakers and the filmmaking community throughout the Midwest, including a very successful mentorship program. For the past six years, the IFP/Chicago mentorship program has produced an entirely student-created film with underserved Chicago youth.  IFP/Chicago’s Mentorship films have won many awards, including the Student Award of Excellence for Technical Achievement from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences two years in a row – an honor achieved by only one other school in history.
