June 8, 2010 - PRLog -- DFW SUMMER BALLOON CLASSIC & AIRFEST ANNOUNCES
THE CITY OF MIDLOTHIAN AS PRESENTING SPONSOR FOR 2010

For Immediate Release --- Debby Standefer, President of The DFW Summer Balloon Classic & AirFest, is proud to announce partnership with The City of Midlothian as the 2010 Presenting sponsor of this wonderful free family oriented festival. A unique Aviation Extravaganza featuring magnificent, colorful Hot Air Balloons and an Air Show, the Summer Balloon Classic & AirFest presented by the City of Midlothian takes place at MidWay Regional Airport, minutes south of Dallas and Ft Worth in Midlothian/Waxahachie June 11th through the 13th.

“Midlothian is proud to again host the DFW Summer Balloon Classic & AirFest and to be a sponsor this year for the first time. This year’s festival will be especially exciting, with the addition of an air show and aerobatic racing! While you and your family are in the area, consider taking the short drive into our historic downtown, with its fun shops and home style restaurants. Have a great time in Midlothian, and plan to come back!!” Mayor Boyce Whatley, City of Midlothian

This event has something to offer all ages, Standefer says. The Hot Air Balloons ascend into the skies twice daily Friday and Saturday as well as Sunday morning. The morning flights are followed by top ranked competitors flying their balloons to compete in challenging tasks right before your eyes. Our wonderful flying area and the organization of this event has attracted many national and world champion pilots (the NASCAR drivers of the ballooning world) ready to astound you with their precision. It is worth getting up early to see! During the Saturday evening the “Lite the Nite” balloon glow as the sun goes down, experience the breathtaking sight as the balloons stand inflated to glow like huge colorful orbs. Come early to see the Air Show and miss the traffic! The balloons will perform twinkle burns, waves, all burns directed by our event announcer, Glen Moyer, who is the premier announcer in ballooning. Weather permitting, this is the one time when spectators may be able to come up close to the balloons and talk to the pilots and see just how everything looks and works. Truly a wonderful experience! This year we will offer tethered balloon rides during balloon flying times, weather permitting.

Saturday afternoon features even more excitement with our Air Show, MidWay To the Skies. Beginning at 2pm a variety of airplanes will perform in dramatic formation flights and aerobatic performances, a thrilling sight for all! The stars of the show are the breathtaking Trojan Phlyers, also based at MidWay, with their astounding formation aerobatics that will keep you on the edge of your seat! Jan Collmer, co founder of the Frontiers of Flight Museum, will fly his Extra 300L in maneuvers that will have you biting your knuckles! We are proud to announce this year’s debut of the Aerobatic Air Racing Challenge Series (ARC Series™) within the Air Show. This will be the first event of its kind held in the south. Teams of two will take to the skies in dramatic aerobatic maneuvers in a timed sequence. Pick your favorite and cheer them on to victory and we’ll see who wins as they come to a stunning finish before us. Women pilots, male pilots, everyone is even in the air and anyone can be the winner! 2010 celebrates 100 years of Air Shows. After the Air Show be sure to head to the Event booth to meet the pilots and get their autographs!

Midday features the Aviation Extravaganza with helicopters, airplanes, military aircraft, powered parachutes, radio control aircraft, giant kites and more, in static displays, demonstrations and flyovers! Some flights will be available to the public. Of course there are booths and concessions of delicious foods, exhibits and vendors, an aviation themed Kid’s area and more!

The premise behind the DFW Summer Balloon Classic & AirFest is to encourage young adults to become involved in aviation, thereby contributing to better future adults. Bring the entire family and introduce them to the vast wonderful world of aviation and show them how they can become involved! This is more than an event; it is an experience for all the senses with something for everyone.

“Sponsorship is invaluable to an event. It enables the event to grow in every way. The DFW Summer Balloon Classic & AirFest relies on sponsorships so that we can keep this a free event to the public and continue to grow each year. We work with our sponsors to develop integrated programs to not only promote the sponsor and assist them in achieving their marketing goals, but to create a positive experience on site for the public. The attendance this event garners not only locally, but from spectators across the metroplex and throughout the state, gives us the ability to market not only our sponsors but to showcase and market our growing airport and wonderful cities of Midlothian and Waxahachie while at the same time becoming an important revenue source for the cities through hotel/motel taxes as well as through retail and restaurant sales in town. We are honored to have the support of the City of Midlothian and proud to promote this incredible city we are so lucky to live and work in!” Debby Standefer says.
