OIFC fishing team WINS MARTINIS HOOK A HOO WAHOO TOURNAMENT

After weighing a 74 pound Wahoo last Tuesday, the OIFC fishing team held on to the lead to take first place as well as top Jr. Angler in the Martinis Hook A Hoo Wahoo Rodeo. The team consisted of Capt. Brant McMullan, wife, Amy, Brant's cousin Brian Aycock and Brian's 11 year old son, Austin. The team chose to fish the Black Jack area on Tuesday where they deployed a spread of high speed trolling lures targeting Wahoo. The day yielded Wahoo of 35, 39, 56 and 74 pounds. The great action was consistent with the other 50 competing teams in the tournament that chose to compete throughout the week. Most boats caught multiple Wahoo and as the week progressed, action for Blackfin Tuna and Dolphin began to heat up as well. Top 5 finishers below:

1 Ocean Isle Fishing Center Brant McMullan 74.08
2 Gettin' Jiggy David Braswell 66.86
3 Sing Fling Kevin Singletary 58.50
4 Pilot Watch Bobby Hall 56.56
5 Full Time Bob Anderson 53.92

The 2010 Barra Classic finished today with local team Mongrels, comprising Tom McCullough, Matt West and Ben Wall, retaining the lead they set on Day Two of the competition. They scored 550 points for the day, resulting in a 770 point win over second place team Classic Warlocks, with skipper John Millyard, Trevor Robb and Justin Jones on 1375 points.

Mixed team Full Boar, with Travis Leine, Glen Schluter and Brett Warren finished in third place with 925 points.

The Champion Angler for the tournament was Mongrels’ Matt West on 1185 points, 495 points ahead of Full Boar’s Glen Schluter and 10 points further back was Classic Warlock’s Trevor Robb.               .

Jeff Wenban from XXXX took out honours for the Most Meritorious Capture award for the biggest fish, which he caught on the last day of the tournament, at 106cm.

The Champion lady angler was Leeann Payne from Team Platypus.

The recent rains resulted in some of the toughest conditions imaginable and a total of 328 barra were tagged and released during the tournament.
