June 2, 2010 - PRLog -- Seeking Adoption Search and Reunion Stories to be Published

EMK Press announces that it will publish a book recounting stories of adoption reunions and attempted reunions from the viewpoint of all those impacted by the event: adoptees, first parents, adoptive parents, biological and adopted siblings and extended families.

Essays of Adoption Reunion Needed by October

Titled Pieces of Reunion: Adoptees, First Parents and Adoptive Parents Share Their Stories, EMK Press, http://www.emkpress.com/reunionbook.html, seeks submissions by October 1, 2010 from all members of the triad detailing actual  reunion experiences, both for the short and long term and reunion attempts.

From EMK Press's website:

We want to hear from you...all of you! We want to know what you felt, what you’ve learned, and your hopes for the future of your adoption reunion. This adoption reunion book will go beyond just the telling of the facts, but touch on the deeper emotions that weave in and out of an adoption reunion. This book is more than a bunch of "happily ever after" reunion stories that end after the first hug. We need your authentic voices and experiences to help others as they choose the path to take toward reunion and beyond.

Editors invite adoption stories of all types to be included:

•   Successful adoption searches and reunions
•   The not-so-successful adoption reunions
•   Reunions that took place and ones that dead-ended
•   Reunions from domestic, foster, and international adoptions
•   Adoption stories from all time frames and  from closed and from open adoptions.
•   Stories from triad members, and from siblings or extended family of triad members

This adoption reunion book will explore the uncharted risks, pitfalls, and emotions that are a part of an adoption search, reunion process, and the life after reunion from the perspectives of those involved and impacted.

The book will be edited by Melanie Recoy, an adoptee, and Claudia Corrigan D'Arcy, a birthmother. Both have written about their own adoption stories including their journey to reunion and beyond.  This is a much needed resource and roadmap for the emotional journey of reunion.  There is no one right way to prepare for reunion, to be in reunion, or to be prepared for a reunion that fails.  Each member of the triad brings their own thoughts, emotions and feelings to the table and having a single place where others have shared what they have experienced to help each participant in reunion make it the best it can be...for all concerned.

"I wanted to bring these stories together, in one place, for those just going into reunion, and for those who are finding their way through reunion.  Some of the best stories can be hard to find, and I know, there are new stories out there that need to be heard," said Melanie Recoy who blogs as According to Addie  "We need you to write about your reunion, the good and the bad. Be honest and not hold anything back.  Tell others what you had wished you had known; your experiences, your feelings, your stories."

Claudia Corrigan D'Arcy, co-editor Pieces of Reunion continues to explain on her blog, Musings of the Lame where she writes about life as a birthmother, "We need you to wade though some hard stuff yet again, and know that it will help someone out there that you have never met, but you will be their lifeline. ..that YOUR unique experience is what they will need. when they need it.. and someplace, maybe someone's happiness depends on you telling your adoption tale just one more time."
