From Dream to Reality: OtterBox Breaks Ground on New Headquarters

May 27, 2010 - PRLog -- Fort Collins, COLO. – As the number one fastest-growing company on Northern Colorado Business Report’s Mercury 100 list this year, OtterBox’s rapid growth means more employees and, consequently, crowded office space. To accommodate, the Fort Collins, Colo. company broke ground on what will be their new corporate headquarters during a ceremony last night at 209 South Meldrum Street, Fort Collins, Colo. 80521.

Mayor Doug Hutchinson, City Manager Darin Atteberry, President and CEO of the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce, David May, board members of the Downtown Development Authority, and other members of the community joined OtterBox CEO Curt Richardson, his wife Nancy and OtterBox President Brian Thomas for a night that marked the official commencement of the renovation project.

"We are thrilled to have such an amazing team of people working together on our new building,” Nancy Richardson said. “They have spent many, many months planning, designing and creating the perfect home for OtterBox. It's been a privilege working with everyone involved. The next nine to ten months will be so exciting as we watch our plans become a reality!"

Involved in making this long-time dream a reality is Everitt-MacMillan Commercial, LLC, developer; Brinkman Partners, construction manager and general contractor; The Architects’ Studio, architecture; Oglesby Sherman Design, LLC, interior design; Integrated Mechanical Systems, mechanical engineering; Northern Engineering, civil engineering; Ronald N Frickel Consultants, structural engineering; APS Inc., electrical engineering; Russell + Mills Studios, landscape architecture and FirstBank of Northern Colorado.

“Working with the OtterBox team has been an exciting and unique experience,” said Jim Ciesla, Vice President of Brinkman Partners. “The passion and dedication Curt and Nancy have put into creating a state-of-the-art surrounding for OtterBox employees is unsurpassed.”

The extensive team plans to use about 10,000 square feet of the existing building that neighbors the Fort Collins Area Chamber of Commerce and expand to 43,000 square feet by early March 2011. Features will include an “ottertorium” for company meetings, corkscrew slide connecting the second floor to the lobby with playful otters decorating the side, large fish tank, coffee bars on each floor, fitness area, bike storage and repair room, outdoor deck with gas grill and a café/lobby area on the main floor with an outdoor patio for employees.

“OtterBox is seeking LEED certification for their new corporate Class A office headquarters with an energy efficient and high performance building envelope,” said Ashley Haas, Brinkman Partners Project Engineer. “The building will include a workout area with showers, highly reflective roofing, native vegetation, water efficient fixtures as well as recycled and local products. The building’s close proximity to public transportation and amenities not only provide a great location for employees buts adds to the success of creating a LEED certified building.”

“Their environmentally responsible decisions salvaged over 70 percent of the original structure, including recycling and reuse of those items not incorporated into the new design. They’ve also maintained the true feel of the Old Town environment by preserving the established landscaping and mature trees. We look forward to the upcoming year and helping OtterBox create their new corporate home,” Ciesla said.
