“Don’t Hit, Quit!” (DHQ) a brand new anti-domestic violence charity in West Hollywood is using star power to raise funding and awareness of its avant-garde approach to stopping domestic violence.  According to co-founder Joanne Busch, a registered nurse at UCLA Hospital, “Star power is the most efficient form of humanitarian energy available.  Look at the response generated for Haiti by top names.  We hope to harness that power inwardly, directing it toward the immediate cessation of domestic violence in America.”

The “Lunch on the Lot” program grants benefactors an intimate opportunity to dine with stars on a production lot.  Small groups of four philanthropists rub shoulders with Hollywood’s top names and famous sport stars.  “Bring your iphone,” says Busch.  “We have a professional casting director onboard scheduling the stars.  An IRS representative told me he had never heard of a program like ours and to go ahead with our donation campaign as we await our final non-profit status.  He called our idea ’Something positive for men‘.”

The idea’s originator, Prince Maryland (the X-Files) found himself in a sudden altercation with his former wife in 2005.  After violence erupted, Maryland was sentenced to 144-life for attempted murder.  “This could happen to anyone,” claims Maryland, who leased a production office at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach at the time this incident occurred.

“I was President/CEO of a thriving independent production company (Heyday Productions, Inc.), in the middle of pre-production on a multi-million dollar film project, when one night, arbitrarily, I discovered numerous infidelities along with secret abortions my wife revealed.  I went nuts.  I was wrong.  I felt blindsided.  I know it sounds strange, but I felt as if I had limited options.  I succumbed to violent response urges.”

Once in jail, Maryland (whose younger brother Russell has three Super Bowl rings with the Dallas Cowboys), asked himself what he could have done differently.  “This was my eureka moment.  I could have left.  But where could I go at 3:00 a.m.?  Plus, we had been doing the Hollywood thing with massive martinis and of course, the drugs.  Where do you go in that condition?  You certainly shouldn’t be on the road driving.  I realized men have no positive place to go.

What if there were lovely resorts, complete with tennis courts, gyms, pools, saunas, spacious grounds filled with solitude, meditation rooms, a chapel, and most of all professional counselors to intervene on a man’s behalf.  Add to this equation other men in similar straits.  What you have is a new preventative way to cessate domestic violence.  You actually stop it BEFORE, not AFTER it happens."

According to Busch, “Everyone loves this idea.  The way we diagnose behavior modification for violent actors is resultant, if not interdependent upon them performing some form of trauma on their victims.  Prince’s plan addresses the would be actor before he acts, giving him effective tools to understand the potentiality of the situation, and the ability to extricate himself into a support rich environment, whether sober or intoxicated.  There is no other plan like this that we’ve found.”

DHQ has identified Whittier as domestic violence central  in California.  Its goal is to open a flagship facility in Whittier some time this year.  “We want to quantify data pre/post DHQ’s Time Out Resort (TOR) implementation.  Based upon this new data, we plan to approach federal subsidy to institute our program nationwide” states Maryland.

Both Maryland and Busch claim DHQ creates new jobs. “A cursory look at the ‘Job Creation’ link at our website will support our view.” says Maryland.  “Someone has to build these resorts.  Someone has to staff our facilities.  There are 3,000 counties in the United States.  This is rudimentary math.  We can create hundreds of thousands of jobs within the next 24 months with proper financial support.”

The first leg of DHQ’s fundraising effort is “Lunch on the Lot” and “Catch Your Favorite Star.”  “Lunch on the Lot” dates will be held at Raleigh Studios in Manhattan Beach and are $25,000 each.  “Catch Your Favorite Star” allows fans to take photos with celebrities for a donation to DHQ.  Maryland has written a movie about his life and the incident that changed his life called “Diary of a Monster.”

“All proceeds from the movie will go directly to DHQ,” repeats Maryland.  “We are aggressively seeking the cessation of domestic violence.  I understand men.  I want to share my story with as many men as possible in order to prevent them from making the same mistakes I made.  As a producer, I’m glad my industry contacts have remained supportive.  I’m a changed man.  DHQ has given me a new lease on life.  I want to spend time helping instead of hurting.  I firmly believe we have discovered the new primary care prescription for the immediate stopping of violence in the home.”
