Saregama strongly defends license deal on “Apni to Jaise Taise” and Sajid Nadiadwala

May 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Saregama India Limited (Saregama) has gone on record that Sajid Nadiadwala had followed the due legal process and had proceeded under authority of an appropriate license from Saregama against the payment of fees in using the musical and lyrical works of the song Apni To Jaise Taise.

Unfortunately, in certain sections of the media, Mr. Sajid Nadiadwala, the maker of the film Housefull is being depicted as the unauthorized user of the song.

After the producers and music composer of film Laawaris questioned the 29-year-old copyright of Saregama,  the matter has been dragged before the High Court of Calcutta, where it is currently subjudice and waiting for detailed hearings after 21st June, 2010. In the meanwhile, there is no restriction on exploitation of the song.

Said Sajid Nadiadwala: “I have the highest regard for HMV Saregama whose business practices are transparent and above board.  I have, in the past, taken song licenses from Saregama several times for my films like Mujhse Shaadi Karoge.  It is really unfortunate that we all got dragged into this controversy.”

“Saregama will continue to defend its copyrights, accumulated over the past 100 years, extremely vigorously. Sajid Bhai is a veteran of the industry and would not indulge in any unethical business practices. Our relationship has been and continues to be excellent. I wish the Producers Guild of India and the Music Industry could get together to prevent such legal action in the future,” says Apurv Nagpal, Managing Director, Saregama.
Till such time as the matter is finally decided, it would be inappropriate to pass any value judgement against either Saregama or the Nadiadwalas.
