R204DESIGN Developing Master Plan for City of Nanxun, China

May 14, 2010 - PRLog -- R204DESIGN is currently developing the 120 Hectare landmark project for the Historic city of the New Nanxun in the Zhejiang province of China. The first phase of the master plan will include a central Cultural Core with the main focus being the New Nanxun Cultural Heritage Museum. Other significant program for the masterplan will include a signature Learning Center and Library, Public Recreation Center, exclusive residential towers, deluxe lake side townhomes, and terraced apartments.

The primary planning principles carefully acknowledge the rich historic culture of ancient Nanxun, sustainable smart growth through walkable communities and the unique art and cultural influences of the region.

In seeking to become an example of positive growth to other blossoming cities in China, the masterplan will embrace a number of forward-thinking initiatives. One concept involves a communication network of digital community bulletin boards for web-based, up-to-date, multi-lingual tourist information, security, as well as local events and advertising.  In response to the increasing auto emissions throughout the country, the master plan is also being designed around the development of an advanced PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) pod car network, which may make Nanxun an example of sustainable transit in China.

Phase two of the development will include commercial offices, artist lofts and mixed-income residential neighborhoods. One of the firm’s founding partners, Daisuke Tanigaki says “the project will aim to focus on the needs of the growing Chinese community in ways most outside firms have missed. Many Western firms coming into China bring their own preconceived notions that do not make sense to the local culture, our approach hinges on first understanding how life is lived here, which is so different than everything we are accustomed to in the U.S. ”
