How About Letting Kids Be Kids

The increase in dating violence amongst our youth stems from our expectations of children to grow up or mature to quickly.

May 10, 2010 - PRLog -- The recent murder of a Lacrosse player by her boyfriend has set off a nationwide concern over dating violence amongst our children.  I hope this and other tragedies like this, do not lead us to do something that will make this even more tragic.
As I listen to the “Today Show” and hear the father of another tragic teenage girl killed by an ex-boyfriend, I cannot help but think that we are letting our children grow up way too fast.  We seem to have little or no problem with 10, 11 and 12 year olds having sex, which my friends, is adult behavior.  Children do not have the capability to deal with this behavior, but then when there is a break up they definitely do not have the mental capability to deal with this in an adult manner, especially when they have been sexually active.
This father suggests that we start educating our children on the danger signs of what girls can look for.  Isn’t our education system scaring and screwing up kids enough.  We teach them the dangers of unsafe sex (not the dangers of indiscriminate sex), global warming, suicide, water shortage, water contamination, the diminishing ozone layer, drugs, etc.  Is it any wonder our children have problems; we scare the heck out of them with all of these “so-called” problems.
Education has stopped teaching our children the basics of education and instead we are teaching the “so-called” social problems that are going to lead to the destruction of earth.  As a 20 year teacher in the school district and author, I can say this with a great deal of confidence.  Stop telling our children the world is coming to an end, let them be children and do childish things.  Get back to teaching academics and leave social issues to parents.  Teach the importance of reading and researching, and most importantly to think for themselves.
America does not have a teenage violence problem; America does not have a finance problem; America does not have a health care problem; America does not have political problem; America does not have a government problem.   America has a moral problem which leads to an excess of all of the above problems.

This is a book that explains why teacher's are not allowed to teach and who is really at fault. It names names and tells it all. It has come at a great price to the author who lost his job the same week it was published.
