PRLog -- Put together the words ‘kosher’ and ‘wine’ and most people will wrinkle their nose, and think sweet, syrupy, Kedem or Manishewitz, which they may or may not have seen at a Passover seder. What most people do not know however is that there is a budding, growing Kosher wine scene, drawing on wine being produced across the world, from France to South Africa, Israel to Australia, Argentina to California. The market for Kosher wine has never been so extensive, nor the options so exciting. Wanting to introduce people to this market, and dispel the notion that Kosher wine means Concord grape juice with a slight kick, two young entrepreneurs, Gavriel Kahane and Shaya Rubin have opened the first Kosher wine bar in Manhattan, and possibly in the world. The Cellar is situated within the home of Darna, a Kosher Moroccan restaurant, and will feature the finest Kosher wines, along with an exciting list of exotic beers, original cocktails concocted by an in house mixologist, and tasty Moroccan bites. “We wanted to create an environment wherein people could connect over the exploration of kosher wine and craft beer,” says Kahane. Says Rubin, “As a kosher consumer you can either go to a Kosher restaurant to eat and drink, or to a bar, lounge, or club and not eat or drink the wine. It’s frustrating not to have a cool, alternative hangout that meets my dietary restrictions. To be a part of creating that solution is incredibly exciting.” The Cellar will also host up-and-coming musicians, as well as private parties, and wine, beer, and scotch tastings.
The Cellar doors are open every night at 10 pm starting May 15th.
