By: California State Soccer Association-South At Cal South National Cup Tournament in Temecula California State Soccer Association – South to Host College Showcase Weekend on May 8-9, 2010 FULLERTON and TEMECULA, Calif. (May 3, 2010) – One hundred U.S. college soccer coaches from around the country will be scouting future stars and scholarship recipients at the 5th annual Cal South College Showcase at the John Blanche Memorial Soccer Complex in Temecula, Calif. on May 8-9, 2010. Numerous soccer standouts such as Cobi Jones (UCLA) and Joy Fawcett (UC Berkeley) received their competitive start at clubs run by the California State Soccer Association - South (Cal South), the official youth and adult state soccer association for Southern California. Among the coaches attending are those from Georgetown University, Santa Clara University, Southern Methodist University, Stanford University, Texas Christian University, University of Utah, University of Texas at Austin, University of Michigan, United States Naval Academy, Wake Forest University and Villanova University, among several others. At the College Showcase, Boys and Girls U15-U17 teams will compete in the Cal South National Cup’s Sweet Sixteen and Quarterfinal Rounds. In 2009, the tournament produced 15 teams that appeared in 14 U.S. Youth Soccer Region IV Finals. The College Showcase is presented by the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA), the official provider of recruiting education for Cal South. The NCSA will present free seminars on the recruiting process for student athletes and their parents at 10 a.m. and noon on May 8. “Our mission at Cal South is to provide the best possible playing and training experiences for our players and teams,” said Cal South President Johnnie Garza. “Our College Showcase presents our players with a rare opportunity to be observed by some of the nation’s top soccer coaches for potential inclusion on college teams throughout the country.” Visiting coaches receive access to a hospitality tent and Recruiting Guide with information on all participating teams and players in the Cal South National Cup.
