WASHINGTON – May 6, 2010

BAC-Home (Bring Abducted Children Home) met with Congressman James Moran (D-VA), along with other representatives to promote House Resolution 1326.  H. Res.1326 demands that  Japan recognize American children unlawfully abducted by a parent to Japan.

Rep. James Moran (D-VA), and Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ), gave a press conference with fellow bipartisan members of the House of Representatives to introduce House Resolution 1326, condemning Japan for failing to return a single child since the 1952 San Francisco treaty, ending United States occupation.

In attendance were Ernie Allen, President and CEO of the National Center for the Missing and Exploited Children.  Left-behind parents and members of BAC-Home, Dr. Christopher Savoie, Navy Cmdr. Paul Toland, Douglass Berg, William Lake, John Gomez and former abducted child and author, Ken Connelly.  Other left behind parents and child advocates were also present for the unveiling of House Resolution 1326.

Japan is the only G7 country to refuse the return of a single child to their sovereign country of habitual residence.

Rep. Chris Smith led the charge one year earlier for the release of Sean Goldman, an abducted child to Brazil.   The passage of a similar House Resolution H Res 125 gave the State Department the power to set sanctions and place demands on Brazil.

BAC-Home co-founder and Navy Cmdr. Paul Toland stated, “I have not seen my daughter in nearly six years due to Japan’s laws regarding child custody.”

Douglass Berg a veteran of the Armed Forces and co-founder of BAC-Home stated to his children, “Don’t give up on me.  We will see each other again.  This is NOT your fault.  This should have never happened and no nation will keep us apart.”

After the press conference BAC-Home members plan to spend the week lobbying and meeting with Congressional Representatives to get their support of House Resolution 1326.

Foreign Relations Chairman Howard L. Berman (D-CA), and Ranking Member Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), are key to having the House Resolution heard on the floor.  BAC-Home and left-behind parents hope Representatives Berman and Ros-Lehtinen will continue to support legislation that serves to protect and return children unlawfully abducted to Japan.

California and Florida each have left-behind parents whose children have been abducted to the Nation of Japan.

Ken Connelly, member of BAC-Home, a former abducted child and author of, “Throwing Stones; Parental Child Abduction through the Eyes of a Child” stated, “House Resolution 1326 is a gravely needed step in the return of American children wrongfully kidnapped to Japan by their parent. This will show Japan that the United States holds the innocence of children to the highest level of priority, but that all nations need to rethink the emotional and physical damages being inflicted upon children by failing to return us to our rightful home.”

BAC-Home members will continue working this week on the Hill through Sunday, 9, 2010.  BAC-Home is headquartered in Washington, D.C.  Members travel from all over the United States at their own expense on a monthly basis to assist in bringing not only abducted children to Japan home, but ending international child abduction globally.
