May 6, 2010 - PRLog -- Young Engineering and Manufacturing, manufacturer of ASME, FM, and UL Approved surge and pulsation control products, offers UL approved Bladder Expansion Tanks and Surge Suppression Tanks in accordance with NFPA 13.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 13) requires the use of expansion chambers on antifreeze fire sprinkler systems with backflow preventers installed.  Backflow preventers prevent antifreeze from flowing from sprinkler systems back into the water supply; but problems can occur when pressure builds in the system as a result of thermal expansion from temperature changes.

This over pressurization can be alleviated with Young Engineering Bladder Expansion Tanks which absorb the expanding fluid, thereby controlling the pressure to a safe level within the fire sprinkler system.

When the fluid within a fire sprinkler system begins to expand as a result of thermal expansion, the excess fluid is absorbed into the Bladder Expansion Tank.  Within the Bladder Expansion Tank, the gas charged bladder compresses as the fluid enters the shell.  The expansion chamber prevents the system from locking up hydraulically and allows the trapped antifreeze to expand without an excessive rise in pressure; thereby protecting the system and its components.

Young Engineering has produced a computer generated video illustrating how a Bladder Expansion Tank functions to prevent over pressurization on sprinkler systems due to thermal expansion.  This video is located at http://www.youngeng.com/fire_expansion_tank_movie.html; other movies are also online at http://www.youngeng.com/movies.html.

Young Engineering’s Bladder Expansion Tanks are UL Listed to be installed onto pipelines, satisfying the requirement for a UL Listed Expansion Tank in certain applications.  Young Engineering manufactures Bladder Expansion Tanks in their San Dimas facility, affording them the liberty to produce a Bladder Expansion Tank to the necessary size of the application.

Young Engineering’s website (http://www.youngeng.com) is designed as a reference tool for those seeking information on Bladder Surge Tanks, Bladder Expansion Tanks, Pulsation Dampeners, and Surge Suppressors.  Regardless of industry (Fire Prevention, PetroChemical, or Water/Wastewater), Young Engineering provides a solution for hydraulic transient surges.
