Follow on Google News | Radisson Hotel at Cross Keys Features Elk Run WinesWine Wednesday Hosted by The Wine Jester, May 12, 6:30-8 p.m., Crossroads Lounge
By: Radisson Hotel at Cross Keys Wine Wednesdays are free events and include hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chef David Marion to complement the wines being sampled. With spring weather in full swing, the wine tasting will be on the restaurant’s patio at the Village at Cross Keys, but indoor tables as well as bar seating will be available for guests and in case of inclement weather. Elk Run Vineyards is on historic land located in the rolling hills of Frederick County surrounded by dairy and horse farms and fields of wheat and corn. Soils of schist and shale allow for deep roots and good drainage and the vineyard’s higher elevations (700-800 feet) help keep the vineyard safe from frost danger. The area also benefits from warm days and cool nights which help preserve the fruity character of the wines. Elk Run’s winemakers use grafted Vinifera vines, close spacing, and monitor crop levels in order to create wines of character, structure, balance, and good color. The vineyard combines new world research and technology with the traditions and values of old world practices to produce high quality, local wine. Elk Run wines include champagne, a variety of red and white wines, port and dessert wines. The Wine Jester will be sampling the Annapolis Sunset, Riesling, Red Door, and Sweet Katherine. Annapolis Sunset is considered an introduction to white wine with soft, subtle flavors and a hint of sweetness. The Elk Run Riesling is slightly sweet with peach and melon notes. Red Door is a red wine ideal for spring with fruit flavors and smooth tannins. Sweet Katherine is a popular Elk Run dessert wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon and nicely complements chocolate desserts and strong cheeses. As with all Wine Wednesday events, wine tastings are free and wines by the glass or bottle are available at discounted prices at the bar. Unfinished bottles may be corked and taken home. This Wine Wednesday event is in celebration of Preakness Week and guests are encouraged to stop in for as long as they are able to stay. Join The Wine Jester for samples of Elk Run wines May 12 from 6:30-8 p.m. Free covered parking at the Radisson Hotel at Cross Keys is available. # # # About Crossroads Restaurant Since 1973 the Crossroads Restaurant has been serving hotel guests, members of the Village of Cross Keys community, and residents of the greater Baltimore area.
