April 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Lifeway College, located in Snells Beach, New Zealand, is currently running 5-day short courses in 3D animation. These courses are exceptional in that they not only present students with a broad overview of all aspects encompassing 3D animation, but also provide them with the exciting opportunity to learn how to render out their projects in stereoscopic 3D.

Stereoscopy is a creative medium popularized by recent films such as Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and How to Train Your Dragon. It is designed to give the illusion of depth to a flat 2d image, for the purpose of creating a more immersive experience for the viewer. This illusion of three dimensional spacing is created by producing two separate images covering a scene from slightly different angles, equivalent to the binocular vision of human sight. Wearing a pair of 3d glasses then enables the viewer to correlate the two images, thus creating a perception of depth in what is truthfully a flat, physically two dimensional picture.

Over the course of Lifeway’s 5-day training module, students will acquire the primary skills of modeling, texturing, animation (movement) and lighting, using industry standard 3D software, Maya 2010. Taking full advantage of these skills in Maya, they are then able to unleash their creativity in the realm of 3D animation, as they work towards producing a short animated project to call their very own. Once the project is complete, students will then be taught how to render out in eye popping stereoscopic 3D.

“The atmosphere was awesome. I believe that my brain may have grown considerably with the amount of knowledge that was crammed in to it. I can’t believe how much I learnt in 5 days!”- Lifeway College short course student.

With the film industry now pushing to see the majority of its tent pole releases produced in stereo, Lifeway College intends to keep its training in sync with this red hot industry trend.

“ It is our goal as a training institution to ensure that our graduates are first in line for jobs within the 3d industry, and to make sure that they are equipped with the necessary skills to stay at the forefront of the continually evolving art form that is 3D animation”- Craig Hansen, Lifeway College Principal
