Real Madrid beats Zaragoza with the help of CR9

Real Madrid continues to fight for the Spanish league title after traveling to and beating Zaragoza 2-1, with only four championship games left.

April 24, 2010 - PRLog -- After a minute’s silence in honor of the late president of the IOC (International Olympic Comitee) Juan Antonio Samaranch, the inevitable Raúl opened the scoring for Real Madrid at 50 minutes, after a nice back pass from Ronaldo. Two minutes latter Matteo Contini was red carded, leaving Zaragoza with 10 players.

The home side came up with the equalizer, when Spaniard Adrián Colunga’s kick hit the back of Casillas’ net at 61 minutes. The “Merengues” turned the game around to their advantage when substitute Brazilian striker Kaká scored in the 82nd minute, after a great through pass by Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal.

Kaká returned to the “Merengues” squad after a long seven weeks off due to an injury.

It wasn’t a good soccer game, played at La Romareda, with lots of aggressiveness and bickering. The only goal scoring opportunities belonged to Real Madrid, and the most dangerous ones by their captain Raúl, who had a shot hit the post. Cristiano Ronaldo had a good chance early in the match but kicked straight to the keeper. Elisha was lucky as he could have earned a red card when he elbowed Real’s keeper Casillas.

After this result Real Madrid remains in 2nd place, still one point behind Barcelona who beat Xerez 3-1 with goals by Jeffrén, Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimović. Mario Bermejo scored for Xerez. The game was marked by a lot of aggressiveness by Xerez, as 10 different players were admonished by the ref with nine yellow cards and two reds in all.

With regard to the upcoming games for both teams, Real Madrid will receive Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium while their main rival Barcelona will play José Mourinho’s Inter Milan for the Champions League semi-final second leg at the Camp Nou stadium. What a game that should be.
