As the name implies, these sensors are different from the standard motion sensors, as these presence sensors are designed to detect “extremely fine movements” associated with cabin / office applications, example : Laptop operations etc. Motion sensors detect large movements and are not used for “extremely fine movements” as they may turn off the connected loads. The IR Quattro HD (High Definition) has four pyro sensors and provides 4800 switching zones for maximum detection quality and high resolution of detection that is far higher than the normal 1300 switching zones available with most so called presence detectors. This sensor therefore, in principle could be used for laboratories, office cabins, classrooms, meeting rooms, sports halls, conference rooms and foyers etc. where most of the occupants are seated and have a low level of body movements. The fine detection area covers 8 x 8 meters (64 square meters), while the maximum range is 20 x 20 meters (400 square meters). The maximum height of installation is 10 meters and the sensor arrives with a hand-held remote control for ease of setting. Steinel has now introduced a unique concept of using different kinds of electronics with different types of sensors. The IR Quattro HD can be used for KNX driven applications, DALI, analog dimming (1-10 volts), dual channel for controlling HVAC and lighting loads individually where both these outputs are galvanically separated and finally for standard lighting applications. The sensor has different mounting adaptors for flush mounting and surface mounting. It is available for protection against theft and vandalism. Steinel says “The world is round but the rooms are not” , therefore this sensor arrives with a square detection area to cover every corner of the room, thereby making human detection more precise. Steinel has incorporated digital technology to analyze human movement patterns. The IQ mode provides the occupant with an automatic signature analysis feature whereby the sensor evaluates the period of occupancy and vacancy and adjust the on-time delay accordingly. Simply speaking the sensor can be installed without any on-time adjustment. The IQ mode checks for periods of vacancy especially after office hours and gradually reduces the on-time delay to two minutes. Any post office hours cleaning activities is subjected to a delay of maximum two minutes, thereby saving energy during the post office hours. For the first time a PIR sensor is available with range adjustment feature to suit the area requirements. This adjustment can be mechanically set using a potentiometer provided on the sensor.
