Obama to Push for Wall Street Reform

April 23, 2010 - PRLog -- President Obama is expected to support tougher rules for Wall Street.  Obama’s proposal for reform is likely to include pushing for legislation requiring stronger capital cushions for businesses and procedures for dealing with giant corporate failures so as to avoid future mass investor bail outs.  Another topic that Obama may support is the creation of a new consumer protection agency to regulate Wall Street and keep an eye on the practices that led us to a financial crisis in the first place.  

Timothy McFarlin, a financial and real estate attorney with Irvine based law firm, McFarlin & Geurts, agrees that financial reform is a step in the right direction.  “Consumer protection”, McFarlin says, “is necessary for the success of any economy.  No consumer wants to be a member of an economy that allows them to be lied to, cheated, and scammed.  Any step that the government can take to better regulate the financial industry while maintaining the idea of a free market is a step in the right direction.”

McFarlin admits that the path to economic stability won’t be easy, but it’s the little changes that will help the most.  He recommends that everybody take the time to educate themselves on the basics of finance and sound financial practices because the actions of the consumer can have just as much of an impact on an economy as the actions of a producer or service provider.
