April 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Bulgaria’s largest mobile network operator, M-Tel, with over 5.3  million subscribers by 2009-end, has announced yesterday that it has signed an agreement with Max Telecom for the transfer of permission to use radio frequency spectrum for providing WiMAX services. By this move, the Telekom Austria affiliated operator abandons definitely its Wimax path towards 4G and intends to focus on the development of the UMTS technology.

It is important to recall here that M-Tel is currently operating a mobile broadband technology based on HSPA, and in last September it upgraded its network to HSPA+, thus allowing users to enjoy data speeds of up to 21 Mbps, being the first in Bulgaria and the 16th in the world to introduce such a cutting edge service.
