Wii has taken back its spot behind the DS, displacing the 360 once again

April 16, 2010 - PRLog -- Many gamers may have already known that, March isn't usually a heavy month for sales, so we mostly saw a continuation of the usual trends. A few things stand out, however. By surpassing 700,000 units, this is the DS' best non-holiday month since June of last year. Some of these sales might be from the launch of the DSi XL. The Wii also had its best non-holiday sales month since last March. The little white box is also the only system to increase sales velocity from February on an average per-week basis. The PlayStation 3 had its eighth straight month of year-over-year increases. The Xbox 360, on the other hand, can't be counted so lucky. After a month of celebrating it finally surpassing the Wii, it slipped back down to the number two spot.

The month also shows hopeful signs for the industry as a whole. March 2010 marks the first overall non-holiday revenue increase since February of last year. Lower prices are credited for increased hardware sales, which led to a 5% reduction in unit sales, but a 12% reduction in dollar sales. But on the bright side, total revenue for March is the third best non-holiday month on record, right behind March and June of 2008.
