China’s Online Video Users Reach 240 Million In 2009

April 8, 2010 - PRLog -- According to an annual survey released by CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center), China reached 240 million online video users and 384 million internet users at the end of 2009, an increase of 38.44 millions and 86 millions compared to the end of 2008 respectively. The report reveals that 56.7% of Chinese web surfers are now more dependent on the internet than on TV. Television watching has dropped among 66.8% of respondents and 23.7% of internet users have also confirmed they no longer watch Television programs on TV. The report also said that movies and television programming were named as the favorite online content of 77% and 70.5% of web users surveyed.

According to CNNIC’s survey, regular search engines were used by 71.6% of respondents to find online video content, 53.9% found content through social networking sites or by word of mouth, 43.8% used specific online video web sites. In addition, over 98% of respondents used broadband connections to watch online videos while less than 1% used narrowband connections and nearly half of respondents, 47.9%, said they watched online video content everyday.
