By: Eye on Entertainment at Time Warner Cable “We received close to 100 submissions from across the U.S and Canada,” LAWEBFEST Executive Director and Founder Michael Ajakwe Jr explains, “I wish we could’ve accepted them all.” Ajakwe is an award-winning playwright, television producer and filmmaker, and is a member of the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW). He is an honors graduate of the University of Redlands. Since 1993, he has produced 16 plays, written 10 and directed 9. His plays have been nominated for 27 NAACP Theater Awards. Ajakwe formed his own web channel AjakweTV.com in June 2009 and launched his first series “Who…”, which is about tow Black beauties who meet every day to dine and dish on pop culture. Friday’s Opening Night paid tribute to Robert Townsend’s “Diary of a Single Mom”, selected by the festival selection committee as “Web Series of the Year.” Closing Night festivities Sunday were dedicated to NBC.com’s “CTRL”. All 10 episodes of the first season were screened, and series creator Robert Kirbyson received the “Web Comedy of the Year” award.
