First Dual-stack DNS Service in Malaysia to use SolidDNS™

MYREN partners with InfoWeapons to offer first dual-stack DNS service in Malaysia

March 28, 2010 - PRLog -- Dulles, VA -- The Malaysian Research & Education Network (MYREN) is launching the country's first free dual-stack DNS service powered by SolidDNS™, a DNS appliance created by InfoWeapons, Inc.

MYREN is offering the free service not only to its clients, but also to the general public, expecting it to stimulate growth and demand for IPv6-based applications in the country.  To ensure the reliability of the service, MYREN will use SolidDNS™ version 4.0.510, which was recently granted an IPv6-Ready Gold Certification.

"We believe that IPv6 is an integral part of the future, one that could drive growth and innovation in industries, universities and many other sectors," says Kamal Hisham, manager of MYREN's Network Operations Center. "Offering this dual-stack service plays into our mandate to provide the best possible technology to aid research and educational institutions in Malaysia."

MYREN’s network is currently being upgraded to cater to more members, applications, and services as well as make the infrastructure a community-managed network.  One of the services the upgraded network will offer members is IPv6; hence, this dual-stack service is expected to enable more extensive IPv6 engagements.

"Our partnership with InfoWeapons is a testament to its leadership and proven track record in IPv6," Mr. Hisham says.

MYREN's high-capacity network currently employs two BIND DNS servers running on Linux operating system.  It plans to deploy the SolidDNS™ appliance as a third server, providing name resolution for both its IPv4 and IPv6 networks, thus creating a working model of a gradual migration to IPv6.

InfoWeapons purpose-built SolidDNS™ as a dual-stack DNS appliance to aid organizations that want to adopt IPv6, but wish to keep its legacy network alongside.  Achieving performance of up to 125,000 queries per second, SolidDNS™ is ideal for this setup and especially for MYREN's high-speed broadband network.

"We are pleased to collaborate with MYREN on this project.  As one of the very first to hone and promote IPv6, we are glad to share our expertise and the best equipment for the job," says InfoWeapons Chairman and CTO Lawrence E. Hughes. "Once again, Malaysia shows the way for the region."

With strong government backing, particularly from the Ministry of Information, Communications and Culture, Malaysia is one of the leading adopters of emerging technologies in Asia with a comprehensive IPv6 roadmap. Through MYREN, the government aims to help universities, research organizations and scientific laboratories achieve the country's aspirations for a knowledge-based economy.
