HR Solutions First to Enact Joint Ownership Model of Engagement

Two online polls conducted by HR Solutions, Inc., asked: “Who do you think should be primarily responsible for Employee Engagement?” The majority of respondents (73 percent) said it should be shared by employees and managers.

March 25, 2010 - PRLog -- Chicago, IL, March 25, 2010 – Two online polls were conducted over the course of this year by HR Solutions, Inc., which asked employees of a wide range of industries the following question: “Who do you think should be primarily responsible for Employee Engagement?” Out of the four possible answers—Employees, Managers, Responsibility should be shared, and I’m not sure—the majority of respondents agreed that Responsibility should be shared. The responses were as follows:

•   Responsibility should be shared – 73 percent;
•   Managers – 18 percent;
•   Employees – 7 percent; and
•   I’m not sure – 2 percent.  

Although most poll respondents believe that Engagement should be jointly shared, this concept of dual-ownership has not been commonly practiced, as Kevin Sheridan, CEO and founder of HR Solutions, Inc., explained: “Our entire industry in employee survey research, including HR Solutions, for years has missed half of the solution: we have operated with the idea that managers should be responsible for Employee Engagement.  Holding only management responsible for Engagement is akin to working with one arm tied behind your back.”
