Walk London Introduces 54 Walks For Their Spring Into Summer Walking Weekend

Walk London, funded by Transport for London, launch the Spring into Summer free guided walks all over London. Over 54 walks covering seven different routes along the Mayor’s Strategic Walk Network for London.

Walk London, funded by Transport for London, launch the Spring into Summer free guided walks all over London. Over 54 walks covering seven different routes along the Mayor’s Strategic Walk Network for London. Designed to be away from traffic, the free walks connect some of London’s best attractions, parks, woodland, rivers, canals and open spaces.

WHY:

London is a fantastic city to explore by foot, with many hidden gems just waiting to be found. Not only is walking cost and carbon free, it is proven to reduce stress, and improve your physical health. The guided walks are perfect for singles, couples, families, or groups to discover what’s on their doorstep, culturally, historally and environmentally, and what’s more, they’re free.

Walk London is funded by Transport for London and works in partnership with all the London boroughs to promote walking for pleasure, fitness and well being, having a positive effect on the environment.

SPECIAL INFO:

With three years to go until the Games come to London, Spring into Summer has a special focus on East London and along the routes that will lead in to the Olympic Park.  Look out for the nine walks flagged as ‘Walking towards the Games’.  Walkers will be able to see for themselves how easy it will be to walk to the site.

All walks are accompanied by an expert guide. For instance, from the River Thames Society or the Arcadian Thames Project, offering a true insight into the local history of the walks.

Walk London is a cross-borough partnership led by the City of London and managed on its behalf by Walk England, funded by Transport for London.  It works in partnership with all the London boroughs to make walking a positive choice with the provision of a network of quality routes throughout the capital. The Strategic Walk Network embraces 350miles / 580km.

Over 5,297 people have attended Walk London’s walking weekends since November 2007.

The Strategic Walk Network comprises 7 long distance routes laid out in easily manageable sections:
- London Loop (24 sections in total 150 miles)  
- Capital Ring (15 sections in total 75 miles)
- Lea Valley (4 sections in total London section 13 miles)
- Thames Path (4 sections in total London section 67 miles)
- SE Green Chain (10 sections in total 40 miles)
- Jubilee Walk (3 sections in total 15 miles)
- Jubilee Greenway (20 sections in total 35 miles)
