March 11, 2010 - PRLog -- Severnoe Volokno (SVOLS), a daughter company of OOO “Zummer” and a leading provider of telecom solutions in north and central regions of Russia, was in search of flexible WDM solution for implementation on its fiber links built in the Siberia region.

PacketLight Networks, in partnership with Rotec Telecom was able to satisfy the technology need for SVOLS by providing a flexible, carrier grade DWDM solution fit for long distance carrier backbones.  PacketLight’s solution was not only compact but also simple to install and maintain.

Today, SVOLS has a successfully deployed 10G optical network stretching over 2000km which enables SVOLS to lease lines to commercial customers and further increase its service offering to existing and potential customers
PacketLight’s Solution:

PacketLight Networks fit the requirements of SVOLS perfectly.  PacketLight’s carrier grade DWDM solution provided SVOLS with throughput capacity from 2MB to 10G in a compact, easily configurable 1U chassis with a possibility of simple upgrade by pluggable XFP’s.   The compact chassis fit easily in the small booths places in the field in extreme weather conditions.

Remote management made it possible to easily maintain the equipment scattered all around the Siberian countryside.  Most importantly, SVOLS could fit PacketLight’s equipment in any link or any connectivity required.

“PacketLight’s equipment is like a Lego: I can mix and match the units as I require and build my network completely according to the demand of our customers.  This flexibility coupled with relatively lower cost equipment significantly decreases our initial investment and allows us to concentrate our resources on growth into other regions, a point which is very important for us as a company,” said Sergey Aleksandrovich Sorogin, the General Director of SVOLS.

The relationship between PacketLight, Rotec Telecom and SVOLS has turned into a true “partnership” where both parties strive for growth together. With PacketLight’s equipment, SVOLS can expand its network and establish itself as a strong alternative carrier in the Siberia region and beyond.

“Working with PacketLight networks is truly a pleasure,” said Michael Vladimirovich Trotskii the CEO of Zummer. “We can count on not only their expertise and professionalism but also on their commitment to us as a customer.  We know that we will receive
About SVOLS:

Severnoe Volokno is a division of OOO “Zummer” which is a leading provider of cabling and IT services including planning, implementation and technical support for LAN/WAN, digital security and CCTV, and telecom services.  SVOLS was created in 2006 with a mission to provide northern region of Russian Federation with the fiber optical based high speed connectivity services.  Today, SVOLS has already completed building over 4000 km fiber optic network throughout the Siberia region and continues to grow its service coverage.

SVOLS employs highly trained engineers, planners, and installers who complete the building projects on time and in a highly professional manner despite of grueling Siberia weather that makes construction work near to impossible at times.

Challenge:
In order to light the vast fiber optic track, SVOLS was searching for a partner with a full set of WDM equipment which would fit its criteria.  The equipment had to be compact in order to be placed in small booths scattered all over the Siberia countryside for fiber crosses.  At the same time, the equipment had to provide redundancy for not only on power (AC/DC) but also on the optical level.

Furthermore, the equipment had to have easy growth ability, where SVOLS could start with only couple of channels and grow to 32-40 channels in the future according to the demand without full hardware overhaul. Equipment had to be easily manageable and transparent for remote management.  Finally, equipment had to be carrier grade and meet the world standards for backbone equipment and be certified for resale on the Russian market.

As a result of this partnership, SVOLS can now offer up to 10G connectivity services to private and commercial parties between the cities Tyumen-Surgut, Tyumen-Ekaterinburg, Tyumen-Omsk and Chelyabinsk- Kurgan.
