| Community Strategic Plan Phase II for Smart Growth Development Begins This Week in Chickasaw ALCity of Chickasaw AL was awarded a coastal planning grant to continue its comprehensive long-range planning. This early 'walkable community in Alabama played a historical significance in the history of shipbuilding for World War I and World War II.
By: Sherrie Graham with Auburn Urban Studio Event Description: The City of Chickasaw is beginning Phase II of the city’s first long0-term comprehensive community strategic plan, based on smart growth principles that will sustain, preserve and ensure an environment that fosters growth and enhances the quality of life for all citizens, businesses and visitors, embracing the city’s historical tradition as an early ‘walkable community.” The City was awarded coastal planning funding from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR), State Lands Division, Alabama Coastal Area Management Program. Citizens, business owners, city employees and interested parties will offer their suggestions at the community town hall meeting on Thursday evening, March 11, from 7-9 p.m. facilitated by the Auburn Urban Studio team. This project is coordinated and monitored through the City of Chickasaw Commercial Development Board and the city’s community development/ The City of Chickasaw has hired the Auburn Urban Studio from Birmingham to facilitate and develop this phase of the comprehensive plan. This is the first time that the Auburn Urban Studio has worked with a South Alabama community. Dates: Location: March 11 - Community Meeting, City Hall, 224 N.
